Welcome to the online application portal for the 2025 French-American Foundation Young Leaders program (This form is for US-based candidates only — candidates based in France should apply to our sister Foundation in France at www.french-american.org.)
Application guidelines
1) Applicants should be between the ages of 30-40 years old at the time of applying.
2) Please create an account to submit your application. All elements should be in English. After completing the biodata form and short answer questions, please upload the following documents:
- A personal statement (up to 400 words)
- A resume
- A copy of your passport photo page
- An innovative way of introducing yourself. For example, applicants have sent photo collages, power point presentations, videos (2 minutes maximum); and written materials. This is a chance for you to get creative and help us get to know you beyond your resume.
- At least one letter of recommendation from a colleague, mentor, boss, etc., with whom you have worked closely and who knows you in a personal and professional capacity. Only one letter is required, and applicants may submit a maximum of two letters. Letters of recommendation may be addressed to the Young Leaders Selection Committee, and must be uploaded digitally as part of the candidate’s application via the application portal.
3) Don't forget to click the "Submit" button to send your application. More information about the program and the selection process can be found at https://frenchamerican.org/young-leaders/apply/.
Thank you,
The French-American Foundation–United States
Please note: The 2025 Young Leaders seminar will be held in Marseille, France from Tuesday, October 21 to Saturday, October 25 (departing on Sunday, October 26). Participants are asked to reserve these dates on their calendars and will be removed from consideration should they be unable to attend.
The French-American Foundation and the Florence Gould Foundation are pleased to invite you to participate in the 38th Annual Translation Prize competition. A $10,000 award in fiction and a $10,000 award in nonfiction will be disbursed to translators in 2025 for excellent translations from French into English, and winning books will be promoted to our networks.
We will be accepting submissions through January 15, 2025. Finalists will be named in March and winners will be named in May.
An overview of the official rules is below. Please visit our website for detailed information pertaining to terms, eligibility and submission guidelines: https://frenchamerican.org/initiatives/translation-prize/
Translations for consideration must have been published in the United States for the first time during the previous calendar year (between January 1 and December 31, 2024). All categories of fiction and nonfiction works are eligible, with the exception of poetry, technical, scientific and reference works, graphic novels, and children's literature.
Prize money will be bestowed at an in-person awards ceremony in the spring or summer of 2025. In the event that the winning translator cannot participate in the ceremony, the Foundation reserves the right to give the prize to a second-choice finalist who is able to attend and promote the Prize.
Please note: While we ask for electronic excerpts at this stage, finalists (notified in March) will be asked to mail hard copies of books to the jury, located at 5 or 6 addresses in the New York area. PDFs of the books are also acceptable when hard copies are not available, but finalists must also be ready to print and mail them to the jury. It is the responsibility of the submitting party to send these copies to the jury, and those who cannot provide the full books in either printed or PDF form in a timely manner may be removed from consideration.
If you are having trouble uploading your submission or if you have any questions after visiting our website, please contact Gabrielle Milligan at gmilligan@frenchamerican.org.
We look forward to reviewing your submission.
